What Items Can a Junk Removal Company Take?
A comprehensive guide to what we can and cannot haul away. Know before you book — save time and avoid surprises.
One of the most common questions we get at BAM It's Gone is: 'Do you take [fill in the blank]?' It's a fair question. When you've got a pile of stuff you want gone, the last thing you want to find out is that your junk removal company won't take half of it. So let's lay it all out — here's exactly what we can and can't remove.
What We DO Take
Good news first: we take almost everything. Here's a comprehensive list of items we regularly remove for Salem-area homeowners and businesses:
### Furniture
Couches, sofas, recliners, chairs, tables, desks, dressers, beds, mattresses, box springs, headboards, bookshelves, entertainment centers, outdoor patio furniture, and more. Whether it's one piece or a whole houseful, we handle it all.
### Appliances
Refrigerators, freezers, washers, dryers, stoves, ovens, microwaves, dishwashers, air conditioners, water heaters, furnaces, and other household appliances. Many of these contain recyclable materials, and we make sure they're disposed of responsibly.
### Mattresses
Old mattresses are notoriously difficult to get rid of on your own. Most trash companies won't pick them up, and they're nearly impossible to fit in a car. We remove mattresses and box springs every single day.
### Yard Waste & Debris
Tree branches, shrubs, grass clippings, leaves, dirt, rocks, old landscaping materials, fallen tree limbs, storm debris, and general yard waste. If your yard looks like a jungle, we can tame it.
### Hot Tubs & Spas
Hot tub removal is one of our specialties. These beasts are incredibly heavy and difficult to dismantle. We have the tools, experience, and muscle to safely remove and dispose of your old hot tub.
### Construction Debris & Renovation Waste
Drywall, lumber, tiles, carpet, flooring, insulation, roofing materials, concrete (in moderate amounts), bricks, and other construction waste. Whether you're finishing a basement or remodeling a kitchen, we can clean up the mess.
### Electronics (E-Waste)
TVs, computers, monitors, printers, stereos, and other electronics. E-waste contains hazardous materials and should never go in the regular trash. We ensure proper recycling of all electronics.
### General Household Junk
Boxes, bags of clothes, toys, books, paper, kitchenware, decor, exercise equipment, holiday decorations, and basically anything else cluttering up your home. If it's taking up space and you want it gone, chances are we can take it.
### Commercial & Office Items
Office furniture, cubicles, filing cabinets, conference tables, office equipment, retail fixtures, shelving units, and commercial inventory. We serve businesses throughout the Salem area as well as homeowners.
What We CANNOT Take
Now for the short list of items we cannot accept due to safety regulations, environmental laws, or licensing requirements:
### Hazardous Materials
Wet paint, paint thinners, motor oil, gasoline, diesel fuel, propane tanks, chemicals, solvents, pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers, car batteries, asbestos, and any other material classified as hazardous waste. Marion County has designated drop-off locations for hazardous waste disposal.
### Medical & Biological Waste
Needles, syringes, prescription medications (some exceptions apply), medical devices, biohazardous materials, and anything that could pose a biological risk.
### Explosive or Flammable Items
Ammunition, fireworks, flares, gas cans with fuel, and anything that could explode or catch fire during transport.
### Radioactive Materials
Smoke detectors (the ionization type contain small amounts of radioactive material), certain industrial gauges, and any item marked as radioactive.
Special Handling Items
Some items require special handling but CAN still be removed:
### Refrigerators & AC Units (with Freon)
These contain refrigerants that must be properly extracted before disposal. We can handle this — it may affect pricing slightly, but we take care of the entire process legally and safely.
### Vehicles
While we can't tow away a running vehicle, we can remove non-operational cars, trailers, ATVs, and other motorized vehicles in many cases. Call us with specifics.
### Pianos & Heavy Safes
These require extra planning and sometimes additional crew members, but yes, we can remove them. Just give us a heads-up when you book so we come prepared.
What About Recycling and Donating?
This is important to us. At BAM It's Gone, we don't just dump everything in a landfill. We sort through every load and pull out items that can be recycled or donated. Usable furniture goes to local charities. Metals get recycled. Electronics go to certified e-waste recyclers. It's the right thing to do, and it's how we operate.
If you have specific items you'd prefer to be donated rather than disposed of, just let us know. We work with several organizations in the Salem area and can usually accommodate donation requests.
Not Sure? Just Ask!
If you have something unusual and you're not sure whether we can take it, give us a call at 971-405-6955. We'd rather answer your questions beforehand than show up and tell you we can't help. Chances are, whatever you've got, we've seen it before — and we can probably take it.
